These cakes are great for spongework and bodypainting - although there is staining with certain colors (blues, greens, red, burgandy).
I dont recommend these for face painting on children, but for bodypainting models the sizes were fantastic - big and heavy. I put mine in the freezer and cut them into halves to save space in my kit (ie, the brown cake is split with burgandy and brown)...I have one set at home and another in my kit.
I have also used these for eyeshadow bases and they are pretty great, I dont mind the staining.

I'm a professional face & body artist, and was excited to see that MAC was offering a small line of face paints/chromacakes. It goes on really smooth, which is great.. and at first, it looks like it's a pure, SOLID white... but within mere minutes, it started to fade and become very transparent. Within 20 minutes, it was all but faded off.. I really really wanted to love this product. Hopefully they'll be able to add beeswax or paraffin to help that pigment stick..
